The Project Overview component is the gateway to managing all of the information in a project record.
To access the Project Overview component, click the Projects link in the Preconstruction component. Type criteria in the Quick Find search box for the project you want or click Show first 10.
To open a record, click the link in the desired row or choose Open from the row Actions menu.
The component Actions menu has the following functions:
Select Add to add a new project record. See Adding a Project.
Note: If the new project you are adding is similar to an existing project, you can save time by creating a copy of the existing project. See Copying a Project.
Select Check In to check in a project. See Importing Project Information, below.
Select Import to import a project. See Importing Project Information, below.
The row Actions menu has the following functions:
Select Copy to create a new project by copying the current project. See Copying a Project.
Select Copy Project Snapshot... to create a new project and an associated cost estimate by copying information from a snapshot. See Creating a Project from a Snapshot.
Select Copy to Concept to create a new estimation concept by copying information from a project. See Creating a Concept from a Project.
Note: If your agency has the Take Snapshot Before Project Delete agency option set to Yes, the system automatically creates a snapshot for all cost estimates associated with the project when the project is deleted. See Working with Snapshots.
Select Open to open the current record. See Maintaining a Project.
Select Change Project Spec Book to change the spec book for the project and update its items to a more recent spec year. You can only change the spec book for projects that have not yet been assigned to a proposal. See Changing a Project's Spec Book.
Select Check Out Project To Estimator to check out the project to Estimator. See Executing Processes.
Select Create Proposal From Project to create a proposal from the project. See Creating a Proposal from a Project.
Select Export Project To Estimator to export the project to Estimator. See Executing Processes.
Select Lock Project to lock a project. You can lock a project record so that no other user can make changes to it while you are working. Locking the project locks all of its related information, including items, locations, funding. While a project is locked, the system displays all project information as read-only to other users. To unlock a project when you are finished making changes, select Unlock Project. See Managing Locked Records.
Caution: Depending on how your agency has set an agency option, locking a project that is associated with a proposal might also lock the proposal and any other proposals associated with that project.
Select Items: Renumber to renumber the items in a project. You can only renumber the items in a project if your agency has the Automatically Renumber Project Item agency option set to Off. See Renumbering Project Items.
Select Validate Project to validate the project. See Project Validation.
Select Attachments to manage attachments in a project. See Working with Attachments.
Select Categories and Items to manage the categories and items in a project. See Managing Categories and Items.
Select Fund Package Overview to manage funding packages for a project. See Managing Fund Packages in a Project.
Select Funding: Assign to Items to assign funding to items in a project. See Assigning Fund Packages to Items.
Select Item Pricing to generate bid-based prices for the items in a project. See Generating Bid Based Project Item Prices.
Select Item Worksheet to add items to a project by using a worksheet. See Managing Project Items in a Worksheet.
Select Items and Alternates to add or change item alternates for a project. See Maintaining Project Item Alternates.

A number of separate applications can be used with the system to develop detailed cost estimates for your highway construction projects, including Estimator, Cost Estimation, SAPW and applications using aecXML format, such as Quantity Manager.
To import project information, select Import from the component Actions menu. See Importing Project Information from Estimator and Other Applications and Importing with the Data Loader.
