The Price Project Item Overview component allows you to change the estimated unit price for any project item. You can change the price of a single item manually, or you can automatically generate a price based on historical bids. You can also generate bid-based prices automatically for all the items in the project at once.
To display the Price Project Item Overview component, click the Item Pricing quick link on the Project Summary.
At the top of the component, the Project Item Total field displays the sum of all low cost item extended amounts in the project.
The component contains a grouped list of all the categories in the project. Each row represents one category and displays the category ID, description, and the number of project items the category contains. Expand a category row to display a list of all the items in the category.
To locate a specific item, enter criteria in the Quick Find search box. The system displays rows of items that match your search criteria.
Each item row displays an Action button and current values for the following fields:
To manually change the price of an item, click in the Price field, and type the new price.
Note: When the project or resulting proposal is associated with a cost estimate, the Project Item Unit Price is read-only. Modifications to the unit price must instead be made on the cost estimate.
When you modify an item price and save your change, several updates take place:
The system sets the Est Type field for that item to Ad Hoc.
The extended amount is recalculated for the project item.
The total price for the project is updated.
If your agency runs the BAMS/DSS HREG profile or the AASHTOWare Project pricing service, you can select Open Scatter Plot from the Actions menu on any item's row to view the scatter plot created for that item. If the item record includes a quantity, that information is used as an additional parameter in the profile. The system displays the scatter plot in a new browser window.
When you generate item prices, the system sends information about the item to a pricing service and updates fields on the Price Project Item Overview component with the results. The information sent includes the reference item ID, quantity, spec book, and the primary county. The pricing service used to calculate prices depends on your agency installation and agency option settings.
If your agency does not use Data Analytics, the system sends item information to the BAMS/DSS HREG (historical regression) web service. To generate prices, the agency options for defining HREG connection information must be set (HregLoginId, HregProfileName, HregValidationBAMSDSS, and HregWebServiceUrl).
If your agency uses Data Analytics, the system sends item information to the AASHTOWare Project pricing service, unless the HREG agency options are set. If your agency sets the HREG agency options, the system sends item information to the BAMS/DSS HREG web service.
Follow these steps to generate prices for items in a project:
To price all the items in the project at once, select Save and Price All Items from the Actions menu on the component header.
To price all items in a category, select Save and Price Category from the Actions menu on the category row.
To price a selected item in the project, select Price Item from the Actions menu on the item row.
The system updates the value in the Price field and changes the Est Type to either Regression or Average, depending on which estimation model is chosen. The Ext Amount is updated automatically. The value in the Project Item Total field is cleared until you save the page and the total is recalculated.
If no historical information is available for an item, the system updates the Price field with the reference price and changes the Est Type to Reference. If reference price information is also not available, the system leaves the price as it was.
Caution: If you have entered information in the Price Comments field for an item for which you generate a bid-based price, that information will be overwritten if the bid-based price also generates pricing comments.
