The Task Groups tab on the Item Summary component lists all of the task groups set up for this reference item. A task group is a collection of price tasks that might include a combination of bid-based, cost-based, and reference price tasks. This combination of price tasks can be used during estimation to calculate item pricing for unique circumstances.

Task groups are created on the Task Groups tab. After a task group is created, you can add price tasks to the group by entering the name of the group in the Task Group field on the Price Tasks tab. For more information, see Maintaining Item Price Tasks.

Each row on the Task Groups tab includes an Actions button and values for these fields:

You can change the value in the Description field if needed. The system automatically increments the values in the remaining fields as task groups and price tasks are added or deleted, or when price tasks change status.

To add a new task group to this reference item, click the New button. The system adds a blank row at the bottom of the list. Enter a value in the Description field.

To delete a task group, select Delete from the Actions menu on the task group row. The system shades the row gray to indicate it is marked for deletion. To reverse the delete action, click the Undo button.

When you are finished making changes, click the Save button. The system displays a message to confirm that your changes were saved in the database.

Copying Task Groups

After a task group is set up, you can copy it from one reference item to another as needed. When you copy a task group, any associated price tasks are also copied. If the task group includes a bid-based price task, it replaces any existing bid-based price task on the reference item.

To copy a task group, perform these steps:

  1. On the Task Groups tab of the Item Summary component, select Copy Reference Item Task Group from the Actions menu on the task group list.

    The system displays a modal window that lists all of the active task groups for reference items that use the same unit of measurement system as the current reference item.

  2. Click a task group row to select it.

    A check mark appears at the beginning of the row to indicate it is selected. Continue selecting task group rows as needed. You can click a row again to clear the selection.

  3. When you are finished selecting the task groups you want to copy, click the Save to Reference Item button.

    The system adds the task groups you selected to the list on the Task Groups tab. The Task Group number for each new group is increased to the next available number for this reference item.

    All price tasks in the copied task group are added as inactive price tasks for the reference item. If the copied task group contains a bid-based price task, that task replaces the existing bid-based task (if any) for the reference item.
