Maintaining a Material Category

The Material Category Summary contains all the information currently recorded for the material category. Information is grouped in tabs located on the left side of the component.

To access the Material Category Summary from the Material Category Overview, click the Material Category Code link for the material category you want to view.

The component opens on the General tab, which allows you to view or change the following information:

• Material Category Code

• Material Category Full Name

• English Unit

• Brand Name Required

• Recycled

• Effective Date

• Status

• Remarks

• Specification Reference

• Metric Unit

• Source Facility Required

• Control Number Required

• Expiration Date

• Active

Click in a field and add, change, or delete information as required.

• Note: Changes made to a material category are not inherited by materials to which the material category is already associated.

To add a remark, first select the type of remark from the Type field, then enter explanatory text in the Remarks text box. To delete a newly added remark, click the Delete button to the right of the remark. You can delete a saved remark by clicking the Mark for Deletion button. You can undo the mark for deletion by clicking the Undo button.

When you are finished making changes, click the Save button. The system displays a message to confirm that your changes were saved in the database.

Qualifications	Click this tab to maintain qualifications for this material category (see Maintaining Material Category Qualifications).
Associated Materials	Click this tab to view a list of materials for which this material category is a parent (see Viewing Materials Associated with a Material Category).
Acceptable Alternates	Click this tab to maintain the list of acceptable alternates for this material category (see Maintaining Material Category Acceptable Alternates).
Associated Sources	Click this tab to view the approved sources for this material category (see Viewing Sources Associated with a Material Category).
Associated Facilities	Click this tab to view the approved facilities for this material category (see Viewing Facilities Associated with a Material Category).
Action Relationships	Click this tab to view or maintain the action relationships recorded for this material category (see Maintaining Action Relationships for a Material Category).
Acceptance Actions	Click this tab to view or maintain the acceptance actions for this material category (see Maintaining Acceptance Actions for a Material Category).
