The Find Sample Record component enables you to perform a quick search or an advanced query to locate matching sample records. Matching search results are displayed in the list at the bottom of the page. When you find the sample record you are looking for, you can click the Sample ID link to view the record in the Sample Record Summary.

Keep in mind that the search results are limited according to the sample access rights and contract authority assigned to your active user role.

To access the Find Sample Record component, click the Find Sample link in the Materials component.

Using Power Search

Power Search enables you to quickly locate a sample record by applying search criteria to one or more fields. Enter criteria and select fields in the Power Search section at the top of the Find Sample Record component. To perform a power search, follow these steps:

  1. In the Entity column, select the type of sample record information you want to search.

The type of information you selected becomes the top level of the hierarchy in the Entity column. You can continue to select different entities until you reach the type of information you want to search. You can click the Back arrow at the top of the Entity column to return to the previous level of entity information.

Each time you select a new value in the Entity column, the system updates the Fields column to list fields related to the selected entity.

  2. In the Fields column, select one or more fields you want to include in the search.

A check mark appears next to the field to indicate it is selected. You can click a field again to clear a selection. Continue selecting fields as needed.

Note: When multiple fields are selected, only one of the field values must match the search criteria for a record to be included in the search results.

  3. In the Criteria field, enter the search criteria you want to locate in the selected fields.

  4. When you are finished, click the Search button (magnifying glass) to apply your search criteria.

Sample records that match your criteria are listed at the bottom of the page.

Performing an Advanced Query

In the Query section on the Find Sample Record component, you can create advanced query statements using the fields selected in the Power Search section. Each query statement row consists of a selected field, an operator, and a value. You can join multiple statements together as needed.

To perform an advanced query, follow these steps:

  1. Expand the Query section on the Find Sample Record component.

  2. In the Power Search section, select an entity, select one or more fields, and then click the Search button.

The Query section lists one query statement row for each of the selected fields. Each query statement row consists of a selected field, an operator field, and a value field. If you entered a value in the Criteria field in the Power Search section, the value is included in each statement. If you left the Criteria field blank, the value is blank in each query statement.

Tip: If you need to search fields from multiple entities, first select the fields from one entity and click the Search button. Without clicking the clear criteria icon, select a different entity, select additional fields, and then click the Search button again. The Query section shows statement rows for all of the fields you selected from both entities.

  3. For each query statement row, select an operator, and enter a field value. See the Query Operators section for lists of available operators.

Rows after the first statement begin with an additional field where you can indicate whether the statements are joined by AND or OR. By default, multiple statements are joined by an OR.

  4. To join multiple query statement rows, select AND or OR in the first field in the row.

You can delete a query statement row by clicking the Delete button at the end of the row. You can remove all of the query statement rows by clicking the clear criteria icon in the Criteria field at the top of the page. You can create a copy of a query statement row by clicking the Copy button at the end of the row.

  5. When you are finished creating query statements, click the Execute button.

The system lists matching sample records at the bottom of the page. Each row displays the Sample ID, Material Code, and Material Name.

You can view information for a sample record by clicking the Sample ID link, or by selecting Open from the Actions menu on the sample row. The selected record is displayed on the Sample Record Summary (see Maintaining a Sample Record).

Query Operators
