A subcontract is a contract between the prime contractor on an agency contract and a third party. The subcontract assigns part of the work in the original contract to the third party.
In AASHTOWare Project, a subcontract also describes the contract work that the prime contractor will not perform. You can divide subcontracts into items and define subcontracted quantities. Each subcontract item can have a percentage applied to it, which indicates that the subcontractor will perform only part of the item work.
To add a new subcontract to a contract, select Add Subcontracts from the Actions menu on the appropriate contract row on the Contract Administration Overview. On the Add Subcontract component, you must enter information in these fields:
Name (under Work Classifications)
Only one vendor work classification is required to save the new subcontract, but you can add multiple classifications if needed. To add an additional work classification, click the empty Name field in the Work Classifications section, and then select a value from the drop-down list. The system automatically adds another empty Name field. You can continue adding multiple work classifications as needed.
Note: If the Use Approved Vendor Work Classes check box is selected, the drop-down list available when you click in the Name field in the Work Classifications section is filtered to include only those values from the VWRKCLS code table and RefVendorWorkClass table that are approved for this vendor.
It is not required, but you can enter information in these fields to record additional information about the subcontract:
Parent Subcontract Number (On second tier subcontracts, the Parent Subcontract Number is required.)
Trucker (If this check box is selected, the Trucker Amount field is also available.)
Supplier (If this check box is selected, the Supplier Amount field is also available.)
Broker (If this check box is selected, the Broker Amount field is also available.)
You can view information in these fields:
When you are finished entering information for the new subcontract, you can add another subcontract by selecting Add from the Actions menu on the component header. The system saves the current subcontract and clears all fields on the Add Subcontract component. Follow the same steps to continue adding as many subcontracts as needed.
When you are finished, click the Save button. The system displays a message to confirm that your changes were saved in the database.
