Working with Contingency Assignments for a Cost Estimate

In this Topic

  1. Adding Contingency Assignment Profiles to a Cost Estimate

A contingency assignment profile is a group of common risk factors that can be associated with an estimate to allow for items, conditions, or events that will likely result in additional costs. You can associate a contingency profile with a cost estimate during any phase of the estimation life cycle.

Depending on whether the contingency is assigned at the cost estimate level or item level, the system applies the contingency risk factor to either the total cost estimate amount or to each item amount to calculate the total contingency amount.

The Cost Estimate Contingency Assignment Overview lists all of the contingencies assigned to the selected cost estimate. To access the overview from the Cost Estimate Summary, click the Contingency Assignment quick link.

Each row includes an Actions button and read-only values in these fields:

To delete a contingency from the cost estimate, select Delete from the Actions menu on the profile row. To reverse the delete action, click the Undo button. When you are finished, click the Save button. The system displays a message to confirm that your changes were saved in the database.

To create a new contingency profile and add it to the cost estimate, click the Add button. The system takes you to the Add Cost Estimate Contingency Assignment component. See Creating a Contingency Assignment for a Cost Estimate.

To view or maintain additional information about the contingency assignment, click the Profile link, or select Open from the Actions menu on the profile row. The system takes you to the Cost Estimate Contingency Assignment Summary. For more information, see Maintaining a Contingency Assignment for a Cost Estimate.

Adding Contingency Assignment Profiles to a Cost Estimate

To add one or more existing contingency assignment profiles to the cost estimate, perform these steps:

  1. On the Cost Estimate Contingency Assignment Overview, choose Select Contingency Assignment Profile from the Actions menu on the profile list.

The system displays a modal window that lists active profiles that are not associated with the cost estimate and have the same spec book as the cost estimate.

  2. Click a profile row to select it.

A check mark appears at the beginning of the row to indicate it is selected. Continue selecting contingency assignment profile rows as needed. You can click a row again to clear the selection.

  3. When you are finished, click the Add to Cost Estimate button.

The system closes the modal window and adds the selected contingency assignment profiles to the list. Each contingency retains the estimation phase, recommended phase ranges, and the Explanation Required setting from the contingency assignment profile. Any subsequent changes made to the contingency on the cost estimate do not affect the original contingency assignment profile.
