Updating a Concept Spec Book

The system provides a process for changing the spec book for a concept and its associated cost estimates. To change the spec book for a concept, all of the items in the associated cost estimates must already exist in the destination spec book. If one of the items does not exist the destination spec book, the concept spec book is not changed and missing items are noted in the process history log file.

When system changes the spec book for a concept, its associated cost estimates and the following cost estimate child records are updated with the new spec book: cost estimate items, task groups, reference price tasks, bid-based tasks, cost sheet tasks, contingency assignment profiles, typical section profiles, and maintenance milestone items.

Follow these steps to change the spec book for one or more concepts:

  1. Select Execute Process from the Actions menu on the Menu Bar. You can also start the process from the Actions menu on the Concept Overview and Concept Summary.

    The system takes you to the Execute Process component with the Select Process page displayed.

  2. In the list of processes, select Update Concept Spec Book.

    The system adds a check mark beside the selection, and displays the Select Data page of the Execute Process component.

  3. Click the row for the concept whose spec book you want to change.

    A check mark appears at the beginning of the row to indicate it is selected. You can click the row again to clear the selection.

  4. Continue selecting concepts as needed. When you are finished, select Set Parameters from the Settings menu on the component subheader.

    The system takes you to the Select Parameters page of the Execute Process component.

  5. In the Destination Spec Book field, select the new spec book for the selected concepts.

  6. If you want to schedule the process to run at a later time, select Schedule Process from the Settings menu on the component subheader. cancelled

    Note: This feature is not available to external users.

  7. Click the Execute button on the component header.

    The system runs the update spec book process. You can monitor the status of the process on the Process History Overview component. For more information, see Viewing Process History.
