Maintaining Market Area Information

Market areas are reference data that indicate geographical regions used when analyzing historical bid prices. Market areas include regions that contain one or more counties grouped together for estimation purposes.

You can define any number of regions. Counties can be assigned to a single region or to no region. These assignments can be based on political boundaries such as districts, or they can reflect some similarity of the counties with the region, such as economic or topographical characteristics.

When you click the Market Areas link in the Reference Data component, the system takes you to the Market Area Overview component where you can add, change, and delete market area reference information. Type criteria in the Quick Find search box to locate the market area you want to work with, or click Show first 10.

The component displays a list of rows for all the market areas in the system that match your search criteria. Each row contains an Actions button and current values for these fields:

You can change the value in the Obsolete Date field if needed. Click in the field and add, change, or delete the date. To view or change additional information about the market area, click the Market Area link, or select Open from the Actions menu on the market area row. For more information, see Maintaining a Market Area.

To delete a market area, select Delete from the Actions menu on the market area row. The system shades the row gray to indicate it is marked for deletion. To reverse the delete action, click the Undo button.

Click Save when you are finished. The system displays a message to confirm that your changes were saved in the database.

To add a new market area, select Add from the Actions menu on the Market Area Overview component header. For more information, see Adding a Market Area.

To add a new reference market area that is based on an existing one, select Copy from the Actions menu on the row for the market area you want to copy. For more information, see Copying a Market Area.
