Maintaining Ethnic Group Information

Ethnic groups are categories of the human population based on race, language, nationality, or culture. The system reference data includes a list of ethnic group codes, which are used in vendor and employee rows. The Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) has also defined a list of ethnic groups. For labor reporting purposes, each of the system ethnic groups must be mapped to an associated federal ethnic group code.

When you click the Ethnic Groups link in the Reference Data component, the system takes you to the Ethnic Group Summary component where you can add, change, and delete ethnic group information.

The top of the component contains information about the Ethnic Group code table, including the Code Table ID and Code Table Description. You can modify the description if needed.

Below the header information, the system displays rows of ethnic group codes. Each row represents the mapping of one ethnic group code to its corresponding federal ethnic group codes. Your system administrator enters and maintains the federal ethnic group codes to make them available for mapping.

Each row contains an Actions button and current values for the following fields:

Click in a field and add, change, or delete information as needed.

To add a new ethnic group code, click the New button. The system adds a new blank row to the list. To save a new row, you must enter information in the Value and Description fields.

To delete a newly added row, click the Delete button at the end of the row. The system deletes the row immediately.

To delete a saved ethnic group code, select Delete from the Actions menu on the code row. To reverse the deletion, click the Undo button. See Deleting Code Table Values for more information about deleting code table values.

When you are finished, click the Save button. The system displays a message to confirm that your changes were saved in the database.
