A bridge segment is a portion of a bridge used to locate a specific section of a bridge as the site for a project's work or a portion of the project's work. It can also refer to an entire bridge. A bridge segment can be described by a set of starting and ending latitude and longitude measurements.
A bridge segment can also be defined as a set of three starting and ending spatial coordinates (X, Y, Z) for use in GIS applications. Adding three-dimensional coordinates to a bridge segment record enables your agency to connect data much more efficiently. For example, an agency needs to know what highway projects fall within a newly-defined Threatened or Endangered Species habitat. If the bridge segment data is spatially enabled, this can take seconds to perform in a GIS program, but could take weeks to develop the project list if performed manually.
The Bridge Segments tab on the Project Summary contains an accordion list of all the bridge segments associated with the project. Each row represents one bridge segment. Each row displays a Delete button and values for the Bridge ID and Bridge Type fields.
To maintain a bridge segment record, expand the row to display all the available information. You can add and change information in these fields:
To add or change spatial coordinate information for the bridge segment, expand the Location section of the row. You can add or change information in these fields:
To delete a bridge segment, select Delete from the Actions menu on the bridge segment row. The system shades the row gray to indicate it is marked for deletion. To reverse the delete action, click the Undo button.
When you are finished, click the Save button to apply your changes. The system displays a message to confirm that your changes were saved in the database.
To add a new bridge segment to the project, click the New button on the Bridge Segments tab. The system adds a new row at the bottom of the list of bridge segments. All fields in the new row are blank.
To save a new bridge segment record, you must enter information in the Bridge ID and Description fields.
When you are finished adding information, click the Save button to save the new bridge segment in the database.
