Transitioning a Concept to an Existing Project

When the scope of a planned improvement becomes better defined, you can transition the concept into an existing project. The existing project must have the same spec book as the concept. Also, the existing project must not already have a cost estimate and must not already have project items, categories, or fund packages.

Transitioning to an existing project removes the cost estimates associated with the concept and instead associates the cost estimates with the existing project. If the cost estimates include active typical sections or parametric items, they must be transitioned to detail items before project items can be added to the project. For more information, see Transitioning Typical Section Items to Detail Items and Transitioning Items from Parametric to Detail.

The transition to an existing project populates the fields on the General tab of the Project Cost Estimate Summary for the existing project with information from the concept provided those fields in the existing project are blank. Any field that is already populated is not overwritten. Likewise, county and district are not copied from the concept if they are already populated in the existing project. Also, the transition process does not copy the location records from the concept as corresponding point records in the existing project.

The Transition Concept to Existing Project component enables you to select an existing project and perform the transition. To access the component, navigate to the Concept Summary and select Transition to Existing Project from the Actions menu on the component header (or go to the Concept Overview and select Transition to Existing Project from the Actions menu on the concept row).

On the Transition Concept to Existing Project component, the system displays read-only information from the existing projects in these fields:

To transition to an existing project, select a project row and click the Transition button.

The system displays a message to confirm the transition completed successfully and displays the existing project on the Project Summary. On the concept that was transitioned, the system changes all of the fields to read-only, enters the current date in the Transition to Project Date field, and enters the name of the project in the Transition to Project field.
