Transitioning a Concept to a New Project

When the scope of a planned improvement becomes better defined, you can transition the concept into a new project. Transitioning to a new project removes the cost estimates associated with the concept and instead associates the cost estimates with the resulting project. If the cost estimates include active typical sections or parametric items, they must be transitioned to detail items before project items can be added to the project. For more information, see Transitioning Typical Section Items to Detail Items and Transitioning Items from Parametric to Detail.

The transition process copies the location records from the concept and enters them as corresponding point records in the new project. The transition also populates the fields on the General tab of the Project Cost Estimate Summary for the new project with information from the concept.

The Transition Concept to Project component enables you to enter a name for the new project and perform the transition. To access the component, navigate to the Concept Summary and select Transition to New Project from the Actions menu on the component header (or go to the Concept Overview and select Transition to New Project from the Actions menu on the concept row).

On the Transition Concept to Project component, the system displays read-only information from the concept in these fields:

To save the new project, you must enter a unique value in the New Project ID field. When you are finished, click the Transition button.

The system displays a message to confirm the transition completed successfully and displays the new project on the Project Summary. On the concept that was transitioned, the system changes all of the fields to read-only, enters the current date in the Transition to Project Date field, and enters the name of the project in the Transition to Project field.
