Different items can serve as alternates for each other. This means that a bidder can choose to bid on either item, but not both. For more information about using alternate sets, see Working with Alternate Sets.

The Item Alternate Sets tab on the Project Category and Item Summary contains a grouped list of all the item alternate sets in the project. Each row represents one item alternate set record. Each row contains an Actions button and allows you to change or view information in these fields:

To add a new category alternate set to the project, click the New button. The system adds a new row at the bottom of the list of item alternate set records. All fields in the new row are blank. To save a new item alternate set record, you must enter information in the Alt Set ID and Description fields.

To delete an item alternate set, select Delete from the Actions menu on the item alternate set's row. The system shades the row gray to indicate it is marked for deletion. To reverse the delete action, click the Undo button. To save your changes, click the Save button.

Managing Items in an Alternate Set

The project items associated with an alternate set are displayed in a rolling list below the alternate set's row. You can view or change the following information in each item record:

To remove an item from the alternate set, select Remove from the Actions menu on the item's row. The item is removed, and the change is saved automatically.

Adding Items to an Alternate Set

Follow these steps to add one or more project items to an alternate set:

  1. Choose Select Project Items from the Actions menu on the alternate set's row.

The system displays a modal window for selecting project items.

  2. In the modal window, locate the project items you want to associate with the alternate set. Use the Quick Find search box if needed.

  3. Click the row for each item you want to add to the alternate set.

The system adds a check mark beside each item you select and shades the row. To cancel a selection, click the selected row again.

  4. Click the Add to Alternate Set button.

The system closes the modal window and takes you to the Item Alternate Sets tab of the Project Category and Item Summary. The new items are displayed at the bottom of the rolling list of project items in the alternate set.

  5. To complete the project item assignment, enter a value in the Alt Member ID field. You can also change the value in the Line Num field.

  6. When you are finished managing item alternate sets, click the Save button on the component header to apply your changes.

The system displays a message to confirm that your changes were saved in the database.
