The Acceptable Alternates tab on the Material Summary contains two lists of materials you can use as alternates for the reference material.

The list in the upper part of the tab contains all the acceptable alternates for the material that were inherited automatically through the acceptable alternates for this material's material category. You can view, but not change or delete inherited alternate materials.

The second list contains all of the acceptable alternates added specifically for this material. You can add new acceptable alternates for the material through this list.

Viewing Inherited Acceptable Alternate Materials

In the Inherited Acceptable Alternate Materials list on the Acceptable Alternates tab, each row represents one acceptable alternate inherited from the associated material category. Locate a specific alternate material by typing criteria in the Quick Find search box, or by clicking Show first 10. The system displays a list of rows for all the acceptable alternates that match your search criteria.

Each row contains an Actions button. You can view but not change information in these fields:

To view or maintain more information for an alternate material, click the Material Code link in the alternate row to go to the Material Summary component for that material. For more information, see Maintaining a Reference Material.

Maintaining Additional Acceptable Alternate Materials

The Additional Acceptable Alternate Materials list on the Acceptable Alternates tab contains a list of all the alternate materials that have been added specifically for this material. Locate an acceptable alternate by typing criteria in the Quick Find search box, or by clicking Show first 10. The system displays a list of rows for all the acceptable alternates that match your search criteria.

Each row in the Additional Acceptable Alternate Materials list contains an Actions button and current values for the following fields:

To use one of the acceptable alternates for the associated reference material, select the Use Alt Material Specs check box in the acceptable alternate row. Clear this check box for any material you want to discontinue using as an alternate.

To delete an acceptable alternate material, select Delete from the Actions menu on the alternate row. The system shades the row gray to indicate it is marked for deletion. To reverse the delete action, click the Undo button.

When you are finished making changes, click the Save button. The system displays a message to confirm that your changes were saved in the database.

To view or maintain more information for an alternate material, click the Material Code link in the alternate row to go to the Material Summary component for that material. For more information, see Maintaining a Reference Material.

Adding Acceptable Alternate Materials

To add a new acceptable alternate for the material, follow these steps:

  1. Navigate to the Material Summary, click the Acceptable Alternates tab, scroll to the Additional Acceptable Alternate Materials list, and then click the Select Acceptable Alternate Materials button.

    The system displays a modal window for selecting acceptable alternate materials.

  2. Locate the material you want to add as acceptable alternates by typing criteria in the Quick Find search box, or by clicking Show first 10.

    The system lists all the active materials that meet your search criteria.

  3. Click the row for each material you want to add as an acceptable alternate.

    The system adds a check mark beside each row you select and shades the row. To cancel a selection, click the selected row again.

  4. Click the Add to Material button.

    The system closes the modal window and adds the new alternates to the list on the Acceptable Alternates tab. You can delete a newly added alternate by clicking the Delete button on the alternate row.

  5. Click the Save button to save the new information in the database.

    The system displays a message to confirm that your changes were saved in the database.
