Maintaining Alternate Test Workflows

An alternate test workflow is a modified workflow that can be used for a sample record test that has a specific combination of characteristics, including test method, material, and sample type. When a sample record test that matches these characteristics reaches a specific test status, and any action is performed that would change the test status, the system automatically changes the test status to the one specified in the alternate test workflow. This enables your agency to routinely omit steps from the testing workflow as appropriate.

The Alternate Test Workflow Overview lists all of the alternate test workflows set up in the system. To access the component, click the Alternate Test Workflow link in the Reference Data component.

Each row represents one alternate test workflow. Each row includes an Actions button. When you expand a workflow row, you can view or change values for these fields:

Click in a field and add, change, or delete information as needed. If you change the value in the Test field, the system clears the values in the remaining fields.

To delete an alternate test workflow, select Delete from the Actions menu on the workflow row. To reverse the delete action, click the Undo button.

To create a new alternate test workflow, click the New button. The system adds a new blank row. You must enter values in all fields except the Lab Unit field and the Material field in order to save a new alternate test workflow. You can include lab unit and material code as part of the criteria, if needed.

When you enter a value in the Test field, the system filters the possible values for the Lab Unit field to only those labs that are qualified to perform the selected test. One of the values in either the Material field or the Material Category field must have an action relationship for the selected test.

When a test that matches the criteria for the alternate test workflow is in the test status you enter in the From Test Status field, any subsequent status change will set the test to the status you enter in the To Test Status field.

When you are finished, click the Save button. The system displays a message to confirm that your changes were saved in the database.
