Adding a Reference Material

AASHTOWare Project materials are substances used in highway construction, such as sand, asphalt, and reinforced steel. Your transportation agency is responsible for assuring the quality of the materials used in its construction projects. Materials are validated through mix designs, sampling, and testing.

Reference materials are added to the system through the material category to which they belong. Follow these steps to add a new reference material to the system:

  1. Navigate to the Reference Data component and click the Material Categories link.

  2. On the Material Category Overview component, locate the material category to which the material belongs.

  3. Select Create New Material from the Actions menu on the category row.

    The system takes you to the Add Material component. The system automatically populates the Material Category Code, Material Category Full Name, and any other information available from the material category.

    Note: You can also add a new material on the Material Category Summary component by selecting Create New Material from the Actions menu on the component header.

  4. To create a new reference material, you must enter information in these required fields:

    Material Code
    Material Name

  5. It is not required, but you can enter information in these fields to record additional information about the material:

    Specification Reference
    English Unit
    Recycled
    Brand Name Required
    Effective Date
    Status
    Research
    Material Short Name
    Metric Unit
    Control Number Required
    Source Facility Required
    Print Label Copies
    Expiration Date
    Active

You can add any number of remarks to the reference material in the Remarks box. To record a remark, you must first select the type of remark from the Type field, then enter explanatory text in the Remark text box. You can delete a remark by clicking the Delete button to the right of the remark.

Click Save when you are finished. The system displays a message to confirm that the new information was saved in the database.
