Adding a Contingency Assignment Profile

A contingency assignment profile is a group of common risk factors that be associated with an estimate to allow for items, conditions, or events that will likely result in additional costs.

The system provides a guided process that enables you to add new contingency assignment profiles to the system. To add a new profile, perform these steps:

  1. From the Estimation component, select Add from the Actions menu to the right of the Contingency Assignment Profiles link, or navigate to the Contingency Assignment Profile Overview and select Add from the Actions menu on the component header.

The Add Contingency Assignment Profile component opens on Step 1 - Define Profile.

  2. To save the new profile, you must enter values in the Profile Name, Profile Description, Spec Book, and Unit System fields. You can optionally enter Summary Information.

  3. When you are finished, click Next.

The guided process displays Step 2 - Define Phase Ranges with an empty phase range row. You can click Previous at any time to return to a previous step. You can click the Overview quick link to cancel the process and return to the Contingency Assignment Profile Overview.

A phase range is the range of the expected percentage markup to be applied to the total cost estimate amount to account for this contingency during a given phase of the estimation process.

  4. To add a phase range, you must enter values in the Cost Estimation Phase, Minimum Range, and Maximum Range fields. You can optionally select the Explanation Required check box.

Click the New button to continue adding phase ranges as needed. To delete a phase range row, click the Delete button at the end of the row.

  5. When you are finished, click Next.

The guided process displays Step 3 - Select Risk Factors with an empty, expanded risk factor row.

  6. You must enter values in the Risk Factor and Assignment Level fields.

Click the New button to continue adding risk factors as needed. You can delete a risk factor row by clicking the Delete button at the end of the row.

  7. When you are finished, click Create Profile.

The system adds a new profile and displays it on the Contingency Assignment Profile Summary. For more information, see Maintaining a Contingency Assignment Profile.
